Happy 6th Birthday Dayton!

Amy and I would like to wish Dayton a very happy 6th birthday!  Here's to our family's superhero...the one that makes sure we know all of the aliens characters in Ben 10.  The one that loves the "Terror of Tower" at "California Field Trip".  Our brave, adventurous, sensitive, and loving boy.

Finding One's Lot in Life

One of the fantastic things about life is the serendipitous nature of things.  One minute we're sailing along, minding our P's and Q's (what does that mean anyway?), and the next minute we are overcome by the Fates and WHAM-O!  The direction of the road we've been comfortably traveling is drastically changed.  The scenery is different, the faces are sometimes different, and our outlook is most certainly different.

Tonight we had my brothers and sisters over to take a little dip and share one another's company while my sister Melissa and her kids are in town from Colorado Springs.  After our swim we noticed that Dayton had reached the vital decision of what to do with his life.  He has chosen (with a great deal of help from the Fates) to labor under the sink, in the septic tank, and with volumes of pennies worth of copper pipe.  Allow this YouTube video the opportunity to provide you with further insight.

We'll be adding some more movies of the swimming fun in the next few days.  Beware, there will likely be a substantial amount of Packer skin.  Could be scary!

Blessed...

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of my family and friends for their support and patience with me over the last 2-4 years. I realize because of  health and emotional issues, I have not been as engaging and involved with you all  as I wished  I could be.  I hope you can forgive me for that.

I cherish every relationship I have, and now that life seems to be changing for the good. I look forward to building greater bonds and connections along the way.
Dear Family;  Randy, Sharon, Mom, Jim, My Dad, Grammy, Ty, Sara, German, Lucy, Audrey, Bryan,  Amber, Neal, Riley, Nate, Sam, Caden, Drake, Melissa, Dave, Kathryn, Reese, Rebecca, Troy, Rand, Caleb and of course my wonderful little special family: Spencer, Dayton, and Ellie. I love you all.

File 13 - All I Wanted was a Pepsi

As a child, each summer my family would spend time at my grandpa's cabin on the hillside overlooking Bear Lake. Back in the day, the beach resort was called (and still is by me) Sweetwater, and the cabin was technically located in the town of Pickleville. We spent many a 4th of July weekend terrorizing northern Utah, more specifically, the Sweetwater resort. We'd venture down the roller coaster and past the golf course to hit the beach and pools and ice cream shop. Back in those days there was nothing better.
One particular summer, people all over the country were taking the Pepsi Challenge, and people vacationing at Bear Lake were no exception. The idea behind the Pepsi Challenge was for people to take a "blind" taste test of two caffeinated sodas, one of which was Pepsi. According to the folks at Pepsi, their soda's taste was superior to their competitor (the one with the red can), and they challenged people to taste them both to prove it. There was one downside to people wishing to take the Pepsi Challenge...more specifically, kids wishing to partake of some free legally addictive stimulants. That being, kids under a certain age were not allowed to take the challenge at all. I was, sadly, on the too young side of the fence on this one. All I wanted was a Pepsi, and they wouldn't give it to me. I also wanted that neat little "pin" with the fold down tab to show everyone that I had taken the Pepsi Challenge. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

File 13 - At My Funeral

This past Monday was Memorial Day...the day in which we remember those who have gone on before us. While funeral's are never a bright and cheery subject, I am making my wishes known here and now that I
DO NOT want a traditional funeral. Here are a few of my wishes in an effort to make my funeral more bright and cheery:

  • NO carnations on or anywhere near my deceased body
  • NO long winded eulogies by anybody (including my children)
  • NOTHING longer than one hour...start to finish (including gravesite)
  • NO obituary that states that I've returned to my Father in Heaven
  • NO obituary that includes a picture of my wife and me above a caption that reads "Together Again", or "Reunited at Last", or "Together Forever", or anything else of that nature
  • YES to funeral potatoes (they're damn tasty and I hope they'll have them where I'll be on my funeral day)
  • YES to Costco cake...white cake with buttercream frosting (again, damn tasty...)
  • YES to someone singing or playing the song linked below

P.S.  Bryan, Melissa, Rebecca, and Nate (my siblings)...I don't say this often enough to you guys (I never say it), but I love each and every one of you.
